Choose an adapter by the eyepiece it must grip and the camera it must align. NexYZ adds a third adjustment axis and a larger normal clamp range; NexGO favors a smaller folding setup.
An adapter that almost fits can be more frustrating than holding the phone by hand. It may rotate, squeeze an eyecup or place the camera too far from the eyepiece. Measure first, then compare the adjustments.

These figures come from Celestron's NexYZ DX and NexGO DX pages. DX kits include additional accessories; compare the exact kit contents, not just the adapter name. The included NexYZ microscope adapters are not a reason to assume every undersized telescope eyepiece fits.
Measure the outside, not the barrel label
A 1.25-inch eyepiece label describes the barrel that goes into the telescope. The phone adapter usually grips a different part of the eyepiece body. Measure that outside diameter where the clamp will sit, excluding a flexible eyecup if it cannot safely carry the load.
Use Celestron's compatibility checker with the exact eyepiece or measured diameter. A fit within the nominal range is a starting point, not proof that a tapered housing, unusual eyecup or camera bump will behave well.
What the third axis solves
X and Y center the phone camera over the eyepiece. Z changes the distance along the optical axis. If you can center the bright circle but cannot get an evenly illuminated view, depth adjustment can be useful.
NexYZ does not automatically solve every case problem. Check whether the chosen camera can physically reach the eyepiece center and whether the phone holder presses a button. Try without a bulky case if the phone can still be held securely. Do not force a clamp beyond its stated range.
NexGO is attractive when your eyepiece fits its range and you want less bulk to pack. Its smaller size is only an advantage if the phone-to-eyepiece spacing works with your setup.
Align in a sequence that isolates mistakes
- Focus the telescope visually on a suitable distant target away from the Sun, or on the Moon at night.
- Secure the eyepiece and attach the adapter according to its manual. Support the phone's weight while adjusting.
- Select the phone camera you intend to use, then center that physical lens over the eyepiece.
- Adjust spacing until the field is clean, reduce exposure for the Moon and use a timer.
- Recheck whether the phone changes camera automatically as light or zoom changes. A lens switch can make a previously aligned view disappear.

Compare the complete purchase
Check exact model, remote inclusion, phone dimensions, eyepiece diameter and return policy. A Bluetooth remote is convenient but does not compensate for a loose fit. The phone's built-in timer can be enough for initial testing.

Will either adapter make planets look like processed telescope images?
No. The adapter holds the phone in place. Telescope aperture, conditions, magnification, exposure and processing still determine the result.
