My name is Niko Fera, and I am an enthusiastic amateur astronomer. My fascination with the cosmos began in early childhood, around the age of seven, ignited by a gift from my parents: a collection of books on space and astronomy.
This early exposure sparked a deep-seated passion for the universe, leading me to immerse myself further into the world of astronomy. I expanded my library with numerous astronomy books and actively participated in astronomy competitions held annually at local planetariums and observatories throughout my primary and secondary education.
Although I initially aspired to become a professional astronomer, studying astronomy and astrophysics, my interests broadened to include computers and information technology. Consequently, I pursued a degree in software engineering, all the while continuing to engage with astronomy as a cherished pastime.
My astronomical journey began with a modest refractor telescope, which provided me with countless nights of moon observation from the tranquility of my bedroom window. This humble beginning laid the groundwork for a lifelong hobby. Advancing in my IT career enabled me to acquire a more sophisticated telescope and delve into the world of video astronomy—a field I continue to enjoy immensely.
Currently, my focus has shifted towards astrophotography, with the ultimate goal of constructing a personal observatory in my backyard. Through this blog, I aim to guide novices in selecting the ideal telescope, impart knowledge about telescopic technology, and share insights from my extensive experience as an amateur astronomer.
Additionally, I am proud to be a member of The American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO) and the Astronomical Institute of Slovak Academy of Sciences.
