Start at lower magnification, let the view settle and check conditions before buying an eyepiece. More power enlarges blur just as readily as planetary detail.
A planet that looks sharp for a second and then ripples is telling you something different from one that never comes to focus. Diagnose that behavior before changing several things at once.

Step 1: make the image smaller
Remove a Barlow and return to a longer focal-length eyepiece. If detail becomes easier to see, you have learned something useful: the larger image was not the better image.

Step 2: separate focus from moving air
Center a bright star and adjust slowly toward its smallest appearance, then return to the planet. A large doughnut in a telescope with a central obstruction is an out-of-focus pattern, not the resolved surface of the star.
Watch without touching the telescope. If the image repeatedly improves and deteriorates, continually chasing it with the focus knob can make matters worse. Step 3: let the telescope and location settle
A telescope moved from a warm room into cool air can contain currents that degrade its view. There is no single cooling time that fits every telescope, temperature change and evening. Compare the view as the instrument approaches ambient conditions instead of treating a timer as proof it is ready.

Step 4: look for dew and vibration
If the view slowly fades, use a dim light to check for moisture on exposed optics. Do not rub a wet corrector plate with a sleeve. Follow the instrument's care instructions and improve prevention for the next session.

When to investigate alignment or a fault
Consider collimation only after basic focus, cooling, magnification and conditions have been checked. Follow the exact telescope manual; different optical designs use different procedures. Do not turn adjustment screws at random because one evening's Saturn looked soft.
If the problem is repeatable under better conditions at sensible power, record the setup and contact the manufacturer or an experienced local club. A precise description of what changes and what remains constant is more useful than simply saying the scope is blurry.
